Inside Acorns

  • Story corner
  • Home corner
  • Blocks, figures and toys
  • Crafting, painting and making tables

We offer a variety of different activities during the course of every day (from making and craft to messy play and free play), with special themed weeks and events throughout the year. Examples of themes from last year include Space week, health and safety week, and the colours of the rainbow. The children helped us to make decorations, sing songs and read stories related to the theme.

There are lots of opportunities for our children to play and explore in the Acorns Garden. We go outdoors all throughout the year, making use of our canopy when the weather gets very hot to provide much-needed shade. The children have access to a wide variety of outdoor play opportunities from making mud-pies in the kitchen, to playing house in the Wendy house, or digging and playing in the sand pit. We also have a slide, climbing set, and sensory wall which see a lot of use all year round. We grow our own flowers, fruit and vegetables in the garden too.

The Acorns Den is our outdoor classroom; an excellent resource for taking just a few children into a quiet space to introduce the formats and activities they will come across at school. We work closely with all the local schools and we are familiar with which techniques they each use for teaching the first stages of literacy and numeracy. Once we know which school your child will be going to we make sure to use the same approach to give them a head-start in their first lessons.
