How can I help my child at home?

We at Acorns like to work closely with parents and family to ensure a partnership in your child’s learning because family links are important,

We hope you will take an interest in what goes on during the day so that you can talk about it with your child at home.

There are many ways in which you can help you child, for example:

  • Share books, songs and games with your child and talk about them together
  • Encourage your child to use pens, pencils, chalk paints and simple tools such as scissors
  • Talk to your child, introduce new words whenever you can
  • Children who do not have English as their first language, need to be confident in their home language
  • Help you child to recognise shapes, colours, numbers and words in familiar places such as food packets, street signs, shopping and advertisements
  • Provide opportunities for your child to investigate and ask questions about the world around them
  • Write your child’s names and help them learn to recognise it
  • Introduce the language of counting during activities such as cooking and shopping
  • Provide opportunities for running, climbing and chasing
  • Let your child enjoy and invent sounds, words, songs, music and rhymes

Please remember to bring your child’s Book Bag when they attend the setting, we encourage children to take a book home to share with their parents/carers.

Regular emails, our secure Facebook page and whiteboard keeps you informed on what is going on in the preschool and future events.
