Starting Preschool

We want your child to feel happy and safe with us.  To make sure that this is the case, the staff will work with you to decide on how to help your child to settle into Acorns.

What to wear

We provide protective clothing for the children when they play with messy activities however we encourage all children to be dressed appropriately for messy play.

We encourage children to gain the skills that help them to be independent and look after themselves.  These include taking themselves to the toilet and taking off – and putting on – outdoor clothes.  Clothing that is easy for them to manage by themselves will help them to do this.

What to bring

  • A change of clothes in case of accidents/messy play getting very messy
  • Nappies and wipes
  • Water/drinks bottle
  • A packed lunch if your child will be joining us over the afternoon session

We hope that your child’s time in pre-school will be a very happy and productive one.  If you have any queries or if we can be of any help, please contact the staff committee/management at any time.

The Role of Parents and Carers at Acorns

All parents and carers are regarded as members of our pre-school. This means that you have the right to be:

  • Valued and respected
  • Kept informed
  • Consulted
  • Involved and Included at all levels

Parents and carers also play a vital role in the early education of their children. As such all the parents/carers in our community have a responsibility to support the efforts of the pre-school in maintaining a respectful learning environment for all. Parents/carers fulfill this responsibility when they:

  • Show an active interest in their child’s work and progress
  • Communicate regularly with the pre-school
  • Encourage and assist their child to follow the pre-school Golden rules
  • Working together with pre-school staff in dealing with any behaviour issues

As a community pre-school we also depend on the goodwill of parents and carers, and their involvement to keep going. We welcome parents/carers to:

  • Work in the group with the children
  • Assist with fundraising
  • Volunteer to help with projects
  • Donate supplies and equipment where possible
  • Give feedback and provide ideas on how we can improve
  • Take part in the management of the pre-school
